Longbottom, Kellett, Horton & Gumersell Family Trees

The Roy and Dorothy Longbottom family tree below was produced mainly using data obtained via a subscription to GenesReunited UK. As with other genealogy sites, this provides access to Birth, Marriage and Death (BMD) certificates and dates besides 1841, 1851, 1861, 1871, 1891, and 1901 Census records. The 1881 Census details are available free from Family Search. The latter also provided pre-1841 details of some births, marriages and names via an International Genealogical Index . Discovering each later BMD details for a single person can involve scrutinising names from at least four, sometimes illegible, handwritten or typed sheets per year. The Free BMD Site. makes this easier, in some cases, by the provision of text based searching. Some BMD dates and names are provided here via Text Records in Census Details and other Tree display pages. Transcripts of most of the 1911 Census became available in late 2008, including those for West Yorkshire. These provided no extra ancestry information but did confirm some of the earlier assumptions and guesses. Some details of family members can be obtained free of charge but pay per entry applies for all the information. For data obtained, click on Census Details below.

Although names can be identified via wildcards (such as Lon*) in GenesReunited, full names have to be the correct spelling. This gave rise to a particular problem with Gumersell which had six different spellings. Then there were the 1851 Songbottoms. Census names that are not exact matches, but not full details, can be identified without payment via Ancestry and FindMyPast. The latter can be particularly useful for population counts of people with the same name. Note that some of the ancestral names were selected as best fit and might not be correct.

Census details and BMD records identify names of the older generations in text format. For the benefit of Internet Search Engines text for other names is supplied here.
