Gumersell Census Details 1841-1911

The starting point was in the 1901 Census with Dot’s mother Elsie, born in March 1901, with known older brother Bill. On Dot’s birth certificate, Elsie is listed as a Gumersell, but numerous variations of this appear in Census details and birth, marriage and death registrations (See handwritten samples). Most entries had to be identified by using wildcards, such as searching for GOM or GUM. All typewritten details are in Gumersell Text Records See also Other Spouses. The later 1911 Census includes Elsie’s brother Jack and sister Lily.

For Martha Alice Gommersall (1901) ancestry see Bower entries. This name was identified from birth records of Elsie’s sister Mary, born in 1914, and confirmed by Martha and John 1898 marriage records.

The following shows Christian names, occupation, age and status for all related individuals living at the given address for each Census year. Christian names and surnames are as shown and might have incorrect spelling. Ages for 1941 Census might be rounded by 5 years. Status is HD=Head, WF=Wife, SO=Son, DA=Daughter, MO=Mother, FA=Father, WI=Widowed, LO=Lodger, MI=Mother-in-law etc., GS=Grandson etc. Direct ancestry is in red, relations at same address in black and at other addresses in blue.
